T’s Orbeez Summer

The weather has been really bad this week.  It’s been raining every day and it actually looks more like autumn than summer.  I know, I keep ranting about the weather, I feel bad for the little ones who have been waiting the past few months for this.  Anyway before the break,, I ordered some Orbeez (their like gel beans which you “grow” over night in water, after about 8 hours they become like squishy jelly like beans your kids can play with) for T to play with over the summer.

She’s been nagging me about them ever since she first saw children play with them on YouTube.

That’s what’s been keeping her busy.  I bought her two packs and they came in little plastic pouches.  Each night she’d choose a colour and we’d leave it soaked in water to “grow” over night.  Just like in the video, she let’s her little “Elsya” and “Anya” dolls swim in them.  She can spend hours just playing with them, sometimes she’ll play and watch a video of kids playing, while she herself is playing with her tub of Orbeez.  She once asked if she could have a bath filled with the little beans, but I said no to that.

To be fair though, as soon as the rain would stop, T would run out and jump on her trampoline.  She doesn’t spend all her time playing with Orbeez, she likes to draw and paint too.  Hopefully the lovely warm sunny days will be back.

Have you heard of Orbeez?

Do your kids play with them too?

Do share.

  1. They look like such strange little things! I’m sure I would have loved them as a kid. Good to hear she is engaged in tactile play rather than sat behind a screen getting sucked into technology like so many kids these days.

    • They do look strange and edible actually! I’m trying my best to keep it away from the dog or else he’ll eat them!

I hadn’t heard of these but my daughter would love them – anything that involves sticking her hands in water is a winner at the moment! 🙂

    • And she can pretend her dolls are swimming in a pool or Orbeez – that’s what T does 😉

  3. We love water beads! Myself included. There’s something about them that just makes you want to touch them. I can see why she’d like a bath tub full.

  4. I had never heard of them until my little girl pointed them out to me in the supermarket a couple of days ago. Totally not down with the kids anymore, but I can definitely see why children find them appealing. And squishing them seems really relaxing even to me 😉

    • Wasn’t aware of them either till my daughter showed me those videos. Had to actually google them 🙂

    • I’m not surprised that it’s also being used as a sensory aid 🙂

    • No, they don’t. I was worried that they would, but they seem to retain its size 🙂

    • I think it’s worse now, especially with those “play videos” on YouTube, every time T sees something new there, she wants it too!

  5. These look fun and i totally agree on the weather – its been miserable!!

I haven’t heard of these before, I think Alice would love them. It’s funny how somethings can keep them entertained for long periods. I hope you get some sunny weather soon so T can enjoy the trampoline now you have it up. I bet it’s like torture for her seeing it outside praying for dry weather. • As soon as I would notice that the rain had stopped, I’d tell T to rush out and jump on her trampoline!

  7. Not heard of Orbeez and what a shame it’s been raining that side. We had rain one day only this week, it was sunny throughout and we loved it

I’ve never heard of these until today but they look great! I’m not sure about whether my son would like them as he can be a bit iffy about these kinds of touchy things, but I think I’m going to give them a go. Hope the sunny weather is back with you soon!
