The Last Summer Barbecue

It was a bit of a mix this week, weather wise, that is.  The first two days felt like autumn has finally come and then on Wednesday, the sun suddenly came out and it was warm again.  Warm enough to have a barbecue outside, our last one for 2016.

I find it a bit dispiriting that this will be our last barbecue outside.  Even Doc seems to agree with me on that one.  While I do like autumn, the changing colours of the leaves, even the dip of the temperature is kinda of nice, especially since it isn’t usually that cold here in Cornwall compared to the other parts of the UK. But somehow the idea of not being able to dine outside dampens my spirit a bit.

My last Pimms for 2016.  Okay, I’m lying.  I still have half a bottle left and strawberries and all the other goodies that this drink is made of in the fridge, so I might just be able to have a glass or two before I call it my last.

In other news, little T has been unwell since Monday night and has been off school for two days now.  She was back yesterday and is feeling so much better apart from the usual cold that comes with the changing of the seasons.

Also, a close cousin of mine is here in the UK for the year.  Sadly, as much as I would love for her to stay with us, we drive her off to the University of Reading for her post grad studies on Saturday.  The good news is that she’s spending Christmas with us and hopefully she’ll be able to come and stay every chance she can get.

My word of the week is “last”.

What about you?

When was the last time you had a barbecue?

I love a good BBQ but I love Autumn too. It is nice to sit outside and eat. I am glad little T is much better! 🙂

  3. I love the summer and sunshine, and whilst like you I do enjoy the colours of autumn, I don’t like the ‘lasts’ either! Ah well, it’s been a good one, let’s see what autumn brings us. Glad that Little T’s on the up and you’ve fun times ahead with your cousin x Thanks for sharing with #WotW

We love to dine outside, although by autumn here, there are too many desperate wasps competing. Still hot chocs and the odd outside winter food to look forwards to. #wotw

  5. Well, we moved to a flat this year after leaving in a house with a garden so we did not have a single barbecue and I’m really sad about it. It’s like we did not really enjoy our summer…
Hope your little one feels better and great news for Christmas and your cousin!

  6. I’m going to miss having a good BBQ, some people say you can still have BBQ just cook stuff in the grill but it just doesn’t taste the same

    • I so agree and cooking and eating outside is part of the whole bbq experience, isn’t it? 🙂

  7. I’m up in the north of Scotland – your ‘cold’ will be akin to our tropical! 😉 don’t give up on the thought of an autumn bbq just yet – I’m sure wrapped up well it could be totally doable!

    • You’re so right and our autumns and winters are also usually milder than most parts in the UK too 🙂 Thanks for the fab idea!

    • Yes, it’s a fire pit! We actually just bought a grill that will fit and et viola! BBQ 😉 x

    • Or who knows, we might just have an Indian summer and you guys will manage to have another bbq too 🙂

    • Definitely was! We took her down yesterday and got stuck in traffic. Love the look of University of Reading! I’m sure she’ll enjoy it there 🙂

The weather has been super warm hasn’t it, I’m so pleased to here that you but it to good use

  9. I don’t think we realised our last BBQ would be our last. The weather has been so changeable recently hasn’t it, hopefully we might still get a few sneaky sunny days in, although I think I’m ready for Autumn now.
