says my daughter to me as I go around the house with the duster in my hand with silly Doc walking excitedly behind me. For some reason the sight of the duster makes him happy as if I’m brandishing some doggie treats in front of him instead of a dirty duster.
T thinks I should leave the cobwebs alone. She tells me to dust around them, that I shouldn’t kill spiders and mess with their homes. I tell her I don’t kill spiders at all, but I do have to dust off their cobwebs away, otherwise our home will be filled with them.
She’s adamant that I leave the spiders and their cobwebs alone.
I give in when she’s around,
but when she’s at school, I dust away.
Actually, there’s a little side-story here. Little T actually has a “pet” spider whom she named Bob (see photo above).
Bob is from our old house. One day, we noticed a big spider in the corner of our kitchen. At that time, T hated spiders and used to squeal every time she would see one. I would explain that there is no reason to fear them, I guess I just got tired of repeating myself and suggested that she named the spider, after all, one doesn’t fear a friend right? She then named him Bob.
And as we packed our stuff to move to our current house, she used to worry about him “What about Bob?” We assured her that Bob would find its way to one of the boxes and will also move house with us.
And we were right, T’s first sighting of him was in the up stairs bathroom. He also likes to hang out by the windows, especially in the conservatory.
If you come and visit, please don’t judge me and think that I’m too lazy to dust around, bear in mind that I have a daughter who has a friend named Bob and this spider also happens to have a big family 😉
Are you afraid of spiders?
Do share.
It’s funny how spiders are always called Bob. That’s what they all are in my house too.

Do you think because it’s an easy name to remember? 😉
Oh how sweet! It’s so funny what little ones come up with ; )
Yes, children are definitely funny 😉

Thank goodness, I’m okay with them… I don’t like slugs though, ugh.
hahah, I do that, if I see a spider I give it a name straight away and it does help to alieviate the fear a little, my other half is used to me coming in and saying can you put Fred outside for me, he’s in the bathroom! Of course you could tell your daughter that if you see a cobweb then it’s no longer a home, because when a spider is living in one they are almost invisible.

She was actually debating whether to name the spider Bob or Fred… in the end, she chose Bob 🙂
Aw that’s sweet of your daughter. I don’t like spiders though, and I always get them out of the house before they have babies and infest the place! Lol
I’m not allowed to touch the spiders! 😉
Aww that’s very sweet but I’m far too scared of spiders to keep any in the house! As soon as I spot one, it’s removed!
Luckily, I’m not afraid of them. I can’t stand slugs though.
Oh my goodness I hate spiders and I try really hard not to show it to the girls. But I generally fail! X

T used to hate them too, but ever since I mentioned that they can be friends, she doesn’t fear them anymore 🙂
I used to hate spiders…to be honest I still hate them a little but definitely try not to kill them now for all of the above reasons!
Let’s just say I do most of my dusting/cleaning when she’s at school 😉
Aw bless, don’t let her read Charlotte’s Web or she’ll bawl her wee eyes out.

Thank you! T will think that you are a lovely woman for keeping the spider’s cobwebs in tact 😉 x
Oh that’s adorable, I love how he moved with you!x
Oh dear God, your daughter is so brave! I can’t even look at that picture of Bob the spider, I’m terrified of them! My little boy is scared of them now too.
She used to be scared of them too before seeing them as “friends”, though arachnophobia is a common fear isn’t it?
I don’t think I could be as brave, I hate spiders they terrify me lol! Still I am glad that Bob is a friendly fella.

I am afraid that one jumped out of the sink at me yesterday so he was swiftly washed down the plughole – cannot stand the things myself

If one jumped at me, I’d be scared too!
Spiders don’t bother me whatsoever but my husband? He is TERRIFIED!! It’s hilarious how he will turn into a screaming little girl when he sees one and I have to leap up and save the day. The kids are nervous of them, most likely due to his reaction, so he’s having to rein it in a little and act like he’s not bothered even though he is frozen to the spot whenever we see one!! Bob the spider sounds lovely though!

Must admit, made me giggle 😉 Bob is lovely, although he is everywhere!
How lovely and compassionate she is. I rehome my spiders outside.

That’s a great idea! I’ll have to do that though when she’s in school 🙂
Hi Dean, I have a totally irrational fear of spiders. When I see one I literally catch my breath and I can feel myself going into survival mode (ridiculous I know).
I think it’s fantastic that your daughter got over her fear by befriending a spider. There was a spider that I named Charlotte after the one in Charlotte’s web, but that didn’t help. It was a huge spider that ‘lived’ under the roof of the house we stayed in in South Africa, the only good thing was that when I asked if someone could check on Charlotte (so I knew where she was) they knew what I was on about.
I gave up fighting the dust years ago. With our windows open all the time it would be fighting a losing battle, so I won’t judge you.

Yes, I’m glad T got over her fear of spiders. Thanks for sharing a cute childhood memory with me 🙂 xx
I don’t mind spiders at all but it is rather a battle to keep the gite cobweb free … and as I have to do that I am happy to leave lots of cobwebs in our house ;). Nice to see arachnids making an appearance on #AnimalTales
