The “Look” (Woman with the Shopping Bags)

I first saw this photo on my friend’s (January Chat with a Mom) blog entry about hyperrealist artist Ron Mueck’s exhibit in Paris.  It’s a sculpture called Woman with the Shopping Bags.

It’s the look on her face that has haunted me for the past few days.  I know that look, I know that well. That look tells you I’m bone-tired. I’m exhausted.  I don’t remember the last time I had any decent sleep, nor the last time I had a long shower or bath. Self?  What is that word?  I don’t know what it is.  All I know is that I need to hurry and cook the dinner, put my little one to bed, do the laundry, fold the laundry before the next feed.  I have so many worries in my head.  I worry about my little one’s poo, diet, sleeping patterns, what to cook…

That is the look a lot of women have worn in the past or will wear time and again.  That look also tells you that she is having an internal dialogue in her head.  What did she mean when she said that?  Does she think I’m stupid?  How dare she make that comment about me!  Or am I just being too over-sensitive? … Butter?  Did I forget to buy butter?  Darn, I should’ve bought those strawberries, such a bargain.  But my bags are too heavy.  My shoulders ache.  If I could just rest a bit.  No, I’ve got to get home and start dinner.

Have you ever had that look on your face?
