Small Joys in Paper

One of the many million reasons why I love having a little four-year-old around, is discovering her drawings scattered all over the house.  Yes, I grumble as I bend over and wonder how much a little one could accumulate so much mess in the little hours she spends getting read for school in the morning.  And then I look closely at what I’ve just picked up, and my heart fills with so much love, I could burst.

Here’s our family portrait, she drew a similar one on her board and as I type this I can see it in the corner of my eye and it makes me smile and really happy – the purest kind, not the superficial kind.

And then here’s one she did of her and her friends:

She also loves to scribble …

And here’s my favourite, some of you may have noticed this drawing on my IG account.

“It’s you mummy!”  She said offering her drawing up to me.

Do you notice, I have heart-shaped pupils?

To her, I’m the most beautiful woman in the world.

And I look at this drawing and you know what, I really am the most beautiful woman in the world, even though most days I really feel like crap and probably look like a bag-lady 😉

What are your small joys?

Does your little one like drawing too?

What It’s All About

Just a couple of more sleeps and it’s Christmas once again.  For parents of younger children, this is when the magic happens.  Of course, Christmas is all about family, being with family, at least it is for me.  But as a mother of a three-year-old (and I can speak for my husband too), for us, this priceless look on our daughter’s face as she opens up all her presents is what Christmas is all about for us.  Whatever stress we had is all wiped out in those precious moments when her face lights up, and you hear her giggles and squeals after opening each single present no matter how big or small it is.  Yep, definitely worth it!

This is little T opening her presents last year, the look of happiness on her face is absolutely immeasurable and so worth everything!  Don’t you agree?

So if you’re feeling the stress right now, just think of what Christmas means to you and it might just disappear.  And if that doesn’t work, a few drops of brandy in your coffee might do the trick.

Have a lovely Christmas everyone!

For Keeps

The dreary winter days seems to be all but a memory now.  The weather has finally decided to give us a break and has been showering us with lovely sunshiny days.  Oh do let the good times last!  And if the BBC 5 day weather forecast is correct, the glorious sunny days are here to stay, for this week at least.  Yes lovely readers, we do get delightful weather too here in the UK and when it happens England becomes even more beautiful than it already is.  No more whinging, no more moping around and wanting to put my head in the-oven moods.  The sunshine does wonders to ones well-being, doesn’t it?

Anyway, I’d like to share some lovely anecdotes/memories, ones for filing in my mind, to be used later, when maybe, winter comes and my mood turns bleak again.  Let me share them with you …

A couple of days ago, I was doing some ironing when I heard an excited voice cry out:  Bye, bye hair plane!  Bye, bye!  Bye, bye hair plane!  Bye, bye!  I looked up from my ironing and spied this from the doorway of our kitchen:

She looked so lovely, innocent and happy as she waved and shouted Bye-bye hair plane!  (Yes, she pronounces airplane with an H no matter how much we correct her).  The day was lovely, we had some linen hanging in the lawn to dry, there was a gentle breeze blowing and life seemed so perfect.  I quickly took a photo of my daughter in my mind, I wanted to freeze the moment, so I quickly grabbed my camera.

And this:

Yesterday, as we were getting ready to go out and do our shopping, T said to me.  Take my picture Mommy!  I was surprised because she doesn’t like to have her photo taken.  As soon as she sees you point the camera at her, she runs away or hides her face.  So I grabbed my camera, eager to take a photo of her.  But she didn’t want her picture taken inside the house and led me outside and into her Dada’s shed.  There – among her Dad’s gardening tools, she actually posed … thrice!  The thing is, I have no idea where she got those poses from.  I never even use the word on her, nor do I do pose when I have my picture taken.  Hang on, I very seldom have my photo taken.  I’m always the one behind the camera and I also doubt if she’s seen it on TV.  Good lord.  I have filed this memory under my “funny ones” and “What-the-H-was-she-doing/thinking” ones.

Btw, I’m not done with my Brighton posts yet.  There’s certainly more to come!

Shabby Blogs Link Party: Ten Things Happiness List

It’s time for the Shabby Blogs Link Party once again.  This week’s list is called 10 Things Happiness List.  Here’s mine:

1.  Happiness is seeing my daughter’s cheeky little smile first thing in the morning.

2.  Happiness is blue skies and when the sun is up and shinning and actually stays like that all through-out the day.

3.  Happiness is being married to someone whom you can absolutely discuss anything with.

4.  Happiness is spending a whole day at the beach with the sun shinning.

5.  Happiness is the smell of the pages in a book even if it turns out to be a really crappy book in the end.

6.  Happiness is dining al fresco.

7.  Happiness is knowing that I can talk to and Skype with my family back home – everyday if I want to (or if they want to).

8.  Happiness is home-cooked meals and baking with T.

9.  Happiness is having a house filled with books.

10.  Happiness is eating ice-cream on the beach!

That’s about it!

All photos taken by yours truly except number 7.
