A Country Kid’s Post: Body Boarding on Widemouth Bay

The weather last Thursday was just a perfect blend of not too-hot and just about right, enough to be able to wear a t-shirt without a jumper on and shorts. Of course, the best way to celebrate this weather was to spend most of the day on the beach.  And that’s exactly what we did.

Widemouth bay in all its glory.  We’re lucky it’s about less than a ten minute drive from where we live.  We drive past this beautiful stretch of beach every time we go to Bude to ran errands.  Admittedly though, when you live nearby, you just take the beauty of it all for granted.  But yesterday, we had a chance to bask in it.

We went to the beach to meet up with friends but came early.  There’s little T waiting for her best-friend F to arrive.  She went into the water but opted to wait for him.  And yes, there was an incessant whinging “Is F here yet?”.  As if by saying he’s name, he’d magically appear before her.

And then our friends finally arrived.  F forgot to bring his body-board but T was kind enough to lend it to him as they took turns using it and at one time, both were on it.  If you’ve been following my blog for the past five years, you will know that T and F have been best-friends since they were two.  They have a good bond and a really sweet friendship.

There’s T’s waiting for her turn with the body board.

Hopefully, these two will be best-friends forever.

I can’t wait till the summer-holidays are here.  Here’s hoping for good weather like this day so we could spend more time on the beach again and again and again.

What about you?

Have you spent some time on the beach lately?

Beach days like this are just the best. We had a day at Polzeath that looks very similar. Like you we weren’t the only ones to hit the beach and enjoy the sunshine, but sometimes its good to be a tourist at home! How wonderful for T to meet her friend there and for them both to enjoy a spot of body boarding together. My kids now all leave me body boarding while they head ‘out back’ on their surf boards. I’ve gone from worrying about them at the water’s edge to worrying about them out at sea! Fingers crossed for more sunny warm days like this for the summer holidays too.

    • The Raven school of surfing were out that day, I asked T if she wanted to try some lessons, she didn’t seem interested. I think I’m actually relieved she didn’t say yes 😉

What a lovely place! Looks so busy too.

Its so nice to see friendship bloom isn’t it? I wish this too every time I see my son and his best friends, hoping it would last forever.

How wonderful! I absolutely love days like this. I keep suggesting that we move a little bit nearer to the coast. T is so good to share with F. I hope they are friends for ever. Such a sweet photo of her waiting. #CountryKids

    • Weather has changed again today. Hopefully more days like this one will come back 😉

  4. That looks like a lovely friendship. N has one like that with the girl across the road because they were in nursery together, although she’s a school year ahead which might stop it in later years I expect. #countrykids

    • We try not to take it for granted, just because we live nearby. But sadly, when daily life happens, we do end up taking it for granted 🙁

  5. Louise (Little Hearts, Big Love)

What a lovely day on the beach. T and F look like they are having fun together and how lovely that they were happy to take turns with the body board. So nice to be able to live so close to the beach and be able to enjoy days out like this 🙂 #countrykids

    • I’m hoping that kind of lovely day will come back. The weather has been really bad here lately 🙁

What a fabulous way to spend a warm summer day! I’d love to try body boarding with my crew, they’d love it! We also live by the sea (in Ireland), but we went and played in a river when the weather warmed up – it was less crowded and less windy than the beach, but body-boarding is not an option!

  7. I’d love to live by the sea. It’s the one thing I miss having relocated from Denmark to London. I hope their friendship remain as lovely as this forever.

  8. Sounds like so much fun. I actually live by the seaside but rarely get down to the beach, I need to more! xo
