A Country Kids Post: Playing Tag with the Waves

It’s officially little T’s first week of summer and it doesn’t feel like it at all.  Not allowing the grey skies and low temperatures to dampen our summer spirit, we decided to brace it and have a little fun at the beach.  It was summer after all, right?

When we got to the beach, people were already in the water and the beach was also covered in sea foam.  These energetic folks were wearing fleecies, not exactly summer wear, I know.

The plan really was to just play on the sand and maybe, T could have a little dip in the water.  But the waves were too strong.  They decided to just play tag with the waves.

Here’s T and her dad getting read to be “tagged”.

A playful wave came by and caught them by surprise.

Before they knew it, both the dad and the daughter were soaked with sea water.  It was actually a scary moment for me.  I had this brief scenario in my head where both were swept into sea, luckily they weren’t.  In fact, they were both giggling.  But I decided to be the party pooper and announced it was time to go home.  After all, they were both soaked with sea water and it wasn’t exactly a warm day either.  T of of course had some change of clothing, but the husband didn’t.

Later that night, my husband admitted that the wave at one point, was really strong and he feared that there would be both carried away.  That’s it.  No more playing tag with the waves, I announced.

Looking at these photos, you wouldn’t think that they were taken in the summer, would you?  They look more like Spring.  Were those few glorious days of summer last week or lot then?  Oh well.  We’ll just have to learn to make the most if it then.

What do you think?

Has summer decided to pack it’s bags and say “Hasta la vista, baby”?

Then again, this is England, with its ever-changing weather, there might just be a “heat-wave” tomorrow – brace yourselves folks!

I really hope we get a bit more sun this year! It’s still quite warm here in Norfolk but that’s not supposed to last.

    • Oh dear, hope it lasts! I’m really crossing all my fingers and toes that the warm weather comes back. Doesn’t have to be tropical warm (especially since I know some really struggle with it), but warm enough for some fun in the paddling pool would be nice 🙂

  2. We have had lovely weayher recently and would love to live near a beach. It’s a shame the weather hasn’t been good but least he daughter has been having fun.

    • Was watching the news today and the weatherman said “Looks like it’s back to the usual British weather in the summer”. Surely not? I’m still hoping some of those warm days will come back at least one more time. x

I am praying that the lovely weather comes back! I feel like we haven’t had a decent day in so long, well at least none with sun here. Sounds like you had a nice time though.

    • Apart from the grey sky and the strong wave… Yes, it was lovely 🙂

  4. Fashion and Style Police

Awww this is so cool. I need to visit a beach this summer.

    • Yes… After all, summer is all about visiting the beach even when it isn’t beach weather 😉

The weather is so changeable, isn’t it! We have had it red hot for about a week but I think it is about to change now! When we went away in May it was so cold 🙁 Looks like you are still making fun at the beach, I love to visit the seaside 🙂

  6. I hope the weather will get a little better. On Saturday I actually went to the beach and got really tanned, it was lovely. But on Sunday it rained again… and the temperatures are around 20 degrees again. Summer, where are you?

    • I look out the window as I type this and see the grey clouds again. It looks more like autumn out there than summer 🙁

  8. Fi Ni Neachtain

Wow, I’ve never seen foam like that stuck to the sand, it must have been very wild indeed 🙂

  9. Ana De- Jesus

The weather was lovely last week but it has cooled considerably this week. I want the sunshine back. Looks like you had fun playing tag.

    • The weather isn’t looking good in the next few days. Hopefully it will be better next week.

    • They almost were swept away that day… Thankfully it didn’t happen. Yes, I agree! It doesn’t feel like summer at all 🙁

  10. Christine

I live about as far away from the sea as you can get in the UK so I’m always a bit nervous at the beach about waves, rip tides and the like. I’d have been heading home too! Hopefully the sun will be back soon 🙂 #countrykids

    • I’m always nervous when my husband takes my daughter in, even if it’s just on the shore like in the photos. Too paranoid. Yes, hopefully the sun will be back soon.

    • Same here. Weather is crap again today 🙁 Looks more like autumn than summer!

  11. Let kids be kids

Wow, that does look a little scary with those waves! Do enjoy a spot of wave tag though, even in colder weather. #countrykids

    • My daughter loves playing tag with the waves, but yes, it can get a little bit scary.

  12. I used to love playing this with my Dad when I was younger – such fun!! Great pictures – but please come back sunshine!! #countrykids

this last week really has been pants for the summer holidays. I can honestly say I’ve not made it to the beach once, or wanted to. With waves that high I’m more than happy to keep my adventurous bunch away. To be fair Guy and Jed have been on Scout camp all week, I’m not looking forward to the soggy ruck sacs full of washing returning today, but it will be lovely to see them after a week away. Lets hope we have some real summer beach weather next week and thank goodness your precious two came out of the sea giggling.

Thanks for joining in with #CountryKids

    • There was a moment of fear and panic… but yes, they came away giggling 🙂

  14. Oh my goodness, looks like a lot of fun. My husband got caught out earlier in the year in the sea too, we expect the girls to get soaked but not ourselves or husbands haha. Lovely memories even if a little scary #countrykids

    • It was all fun, got scared a bit, but they both loved it and ended up soaked 🙂

  15. Rachel @ Coffee, Cake, Kids

Shame the weather wasn’t a bit nicer, but the seaside is great whatever the weather! A few years ago me and my friends paddled in the sea in Suffolk on New Years Eve…that was cold! #CountryKids

  16. Sorry your weather is not feeling much like summer. Here in Texas, I long for cooler days. Looks like y’all had a great day at the beach despite the weather. #countrykids

    • Give me Texan weather anytime! 🙂 Have family living over there.

  17. Happy to say we’ve been really lucky with the weather over the last week or so.

I have to agree with you about the waves. I’m petrified of my children being in the sea as I know how powerful it can be. Better to be safe than sorry x

    • We’ve been having lovely weather since yesterday. Hope it lasts though, as for the waves, I’m with you! I keep a paranoid watch on my family when they’re in the water.

  18. Cassandra Mayers

The waves are so much fun! I loved them splashing against my feet when I went in the sea. My daughter wouldn’t come in the water yet though. Maybe when she is older. #CountryKids

  19. Merlinda Little (Glimmer of Hope)

Wow that looks so cold! The coldest that we have here doesnt look that bad to be honest! And we really not that far from you (I think).

But like you no matter what the weather we go to the beach haha. I let Sebastian play in the water but I try to always be near him as I am a worry wart =)
