Are You feeling “Christmassy” yet?

I’m not.

Is “Christmassy” even a word?

Yesterday, as we got into the car to take T to her gymnastics class, Christmas songs filled the air.  I looked at my husband, and he said “Don’t look at me.  Blame her!” pointing at T who was busy mucking about with her friend in the car.”  Apparently, the-not-so-little-one has managed to find the Christmas CD which was part of her Now That’s What I call Disney CD which I thought I had hidden away.

Off we went as the song “Jingle Bells” blasted through the car, with me gritting my teeth, thank goodness, her new gym club isn’t that far from where we live.  I don’t think I’d survive the car ride if it were longer that 20 mins without turning into the Grinch.

I’m not just feeling the Christmas vibe just yet, which is a bit unusual, because I’m someone who loves and embraces everything about Christmas.  My husband recently brought all our decors from the shed because the boxes were being nibbled by mice.  If I were my “normal” self, I’d take this as a signal that it was okay to start decking the house with Christmas garlands with the husband protesting in the background and reminding me that “We agreed the first of December, remember?!”  And of course, I’d completely ignore him.

Nope, not feeling Christmassy yet.  In spite the Christmas adverts being shown on TV.  I finally saw the controversial John Lewis Christmas ad and found it really cute.  It didn’t upset or annoy me at all. But I did understand why some parents might be bothered about it.  If T asked me, I’d say. “The trampoline was from Santa, but he didn’t have time to set-it-up so  he asked the Dad to do it for him.  After all, he still has loads of presents to deliver all over the world right?” And she would believe me.

My mum sent me a photo of her beautiful Christmas tree.  Again, normally I’d feel really envious but I just admired it from afar and didn’t have the urge to go and pester my husband to get one before the agreed dates.

We’ve decided that it’s okay to decorate the house in the first of December.  We also have this Christmas tradition every year, where we go to a Christmas tree farm and choose a special tree.  But this happens usually on the second week of December.

What about you?

When do you start decorating your house and putting up your tree?

I feel Christmassy, or festive probably more. We don’t play Christmas music or decorate until December. The only exception is that the children are practising carols. Their music teacher starts early so they have plenty of time to get ready. I’m loving the adverts. I read the John Lewis web page about the ad. They seem to suggest that the trampoline isn’t from Santa, but from the parents. #wotw

    • Oh dear, did they really say that? I guess my only consolation is I doubt if T would even think of checking that one out 😉 I do love Christmas carols though, especially when it’s a proper choir singing and not Disney 😉

    • It’s also the first of December for us, still not feeling the Christmas spirit at all.

  2. Christmas is always on hold in our house until after my birthday next week. So generally it starts the beginning of December…I to tend to have a fair bit of Christmas shopping done by then though. It’s a bit early for Christmas songs though.

    • I’m glad you agree with me about the Christmas songs. I usually do my Christmas shopping end of November, hate the Christmas rush!

  3. I’m like you and soooo not feeling it yet! But I know as the kids get more excited about it I’ll get into the festive spirit and stop being the grinch.

  4. Jess Powell (Babi a Fi)

I’m not feeling it at all yet, it’s just too early. I think I’ll be really into it next year when Marianna’s old enough is to know what’s happening – she just says she’s scared of Father Christmas every time he’s on an advert or whatever at the moment! x

    • You’ll definitely feel it more when your daughter is old enough! And Christmas will even be more fun for the whole family.

  5. The Reading Residence

My kids were trying to put a Christmas CD on last night and I stopped it from happening! I do in that pressies are bought, cards are written and plans have been made, but that’s just because I like to be organised. I like to start doing Christmas things from 1st December, so yes, the tree, the music, the movies and everything else, and I do then love it!

    • Same here! I usually do my Christmas shopping end of November actually. Hopefully I’ll get into the festive spirit soon.

  6. Kim Carberry

I am so excited for Christmas and I’m feeling very Christmassy!
My fella has said no decorations until the first weekend in December which is fair enough but I have been listening to Christmas songs on the music channels on TV. x

  7. Stephanie @ SVCAMBRIA

My husband and I live and travel on a sailboat and, for the last 8 years, have been spending the month of December at my mom’s house so I stopped putting up a tree years ago. I have to admit, I really miss it — there’s something quite magical about the season. #wotw

    • Oh yes, family drama always happens doesn’t it? I do miss spending Christmas with my family though, in spite drama lurking in the corner 😉

It is a word on my vocabulary and I must admit I use it often. I’ve been feeling Christmassy since October when I started my Christmas shopping. I must watch the adverts I’ve not had time to yet.

  9. I am totally in the christmas mood. I want to put my tree up but i will resist till 1st dec!

  10. Tam Gamble

I don’t feel christmasy at all. Perhaps this is because I am about to head off on a month-long trip somewhere warm. I have’t seen the John Lewis Advert yet and didn’t know that it had caused any controversy – clearly I need to catch up!

    • Oh I’m so envious your heading off somewhere warm. Would love to be in your position 😉

  11. You aren’t alone. I really don’t feel in the mood for Christmas bah humbug! It’s mainly as this year I’m finding it soooo difficult to know what to get people. I know that it should not be about presents but I’m sure they wouldn’t be pleased if I came baring none. #WotW

    • I’m hoping the Christmas bug will bite me soon, especially since my husband gave me the go-signal to decorate early. Just not feeling it yet.

  12. Fashion and Style Police

I am yet to see most of the Christmas ads but I have been feeling Christmassy for weeks now. Love Christmas.

  13. Sarah Christie

I must say I am really feeling it this year much earlier that usual, I think its the huge influx of Christmas adverts. There are some lovely ones this year.

  14. we went ice skating yesterday,, so we are feeling really Christmassy in our house.. i cant wait to put up the tree now x

  15. Anne Russell

I love a traditional Christmas with the focus on natural, home-made and stress free. I started the Christmas pudding today (Stir Up Sunday) ready for steaming tomorrow and next week (Advent Sunday) will put my Scandinavian candle arch in the window. Choosing and decorating the tree, writing cards, wrapping gifts and more cooking will gradually fill the remaining weeks until Christmas Eve. A cosy fire, candles burning, a CD of carols, a mug of hot mulled wine and a mince pie – perfect!!

  16. Jordanne | Thelifeofaglasgowgirl

This year I am actually feeling the Christmas vibe, maybe because my little one is very excited for santa and decorating. It sounds like a lovely tradition you have of going to the tree farm, I would love a real tree!

I think as we get older christmas becomes less ‘christmassy’. Personally I have started resenting the whole comercialisation of it all and gritting my teeth about finances.
    RachelSwirl recently posted…#TuesdayTreasures 22/11/2016My Profile

    • Same here about finances, but every time I think of the look on T’s face as she opens her presents, so worth it! 😉

  18. Marie Barber

I love the run up to Christmas we start watching movies in November then we have lots of family traditions with Christmas day and gifts just being a part of it. We missed santa arriving to town this year as our car is broken that usually kicks off our traditions.

    • Love your Christmas traditions, we have a few as well. Can’t wait to get them started 🙂

  19. Louise (Little Hearts, Big Love)

I love Christmas and I enjoyed getting in the Christmas spirit this weekend by helping out at the school fayre and being an elf in Santa’s Grotto. That said though, I always hold out until December to really start getting Christmassy. Our tree doesn’t go up until around 15th December. #WotW

  20. I’m starting to feel a little Christmassy but happy to wait til December before we get the music on x

  21. Chloe Ciliberto

I think we’ve reversed roles this year. I’m normally not very Christmassy till December. This year I’ve gone full on Christmas mad and even went to try and reserve our tree over a week ago. I’m listening to the music, the shopping is done and i’m itching to decorate. I hope you start feeling the spirit soon! It doesn’t help with the weather being that much bleaker this year. xx

    • I’m slowly getting into it – I think. Hopefully soon, I’ll be like you! 🙂

  22. I am definitely much later this year than usual. I have put a few things up today but the tree wont go up until Thursday now. I think it is rammed down our throats so early now it is killing it.

    • I’ve put up a few decors too. But not putting up the tree till about second week since we use a real tree. Don’t want pine needles falling everywhere.
