The Liebster Award

First off, I’d like to thank The Secret Father for awarding me the Liebster Award.  Admittedly, I wasn’t really sure what it was until I read it on his post, which according to him, or the one who awarded the blog to him “Liebster” is a German term for sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, and endearing.  It is awarded to bloggers with not more than 200 followers as a form of recognition and support to keep on blogging.

What I really like about this “award” though is the bit about giving it to a blogger as a support or encouragement to keep on blogging.  For me it’s like a friendly pat on the back as if to say “Hey, you’re doing really good.  Keep it up” or “What you’re saying is worth reading. so keep writing”  So once again, thanks The Secret Father!

 The rules are:

– Thank the person who nominated you.

– Answer the 11 questions posted on your nominator’s blog.

– Give the award to your chosen 11 bloggers.  Don’t forget to inform them about it by leaving a comment on their blog.

– Pose 11 of your own new questions to your bloggers.

– (Optional) Stick the Leibster award on your blog.

Here are my answers to the 11 Questions:

1. Which of your blog posts is your personal favorite?

I don’t really have one favourite, but I love all the blog posts in my “Chat with Moms’ section.  I do a monthly feature on my blog where I “interview” mothers about their lives and children.  I love the diversity of their answers and the stories they tell about themselves and their little ones.

2. Unicorns or zombies?

I don’t like zombies, so I’ll have to go for unicorns, especially since I live in Cornwall and the Cornish supposedly believe in pixies, fairies and gnomes and other legendary creatures.

3. Name one other blog post from another writer that really inspired you?

I find this blog post called Opportunity by Mae’s Day really inspiring.  But then again, I find almost all of her blog posts inspiring!  It talks about finding opportunity even in the darkest days of your life.

4. If you could possess one super power for the day, what would it be and why?

Flying! – even though I think I’m a bit scared of heights!  If I could fly, then once the homesickness bug bites me again, all I need to do is fly back home.   Wouldn’t that be great?  Cheaper too!

5. Describe yourself in 20 words or less

Mother, wife, freelance writer, homebody, ex-coffee lover (though I still love the smell), now loves tea (I blame my English husband for this), used to think that cooking meant frying or stuffing something in the microwave – now I think I’m a great cook!  Sorry, that’s more than 20 words.

6. If you started / owned your own country, what would you have as the top three principles of your constitution?

Equality, freedom and brotherhood/sisterhood.

7. What three things would you tell your 18-year-old self, given the benefit of hindsight?

– This will be really hard to believe but you will actually miss your university days and even actually want to go back and earn another degree (now whether you’ll actually do it is an all-together different story).

– Your life isn’t really difficult at all and being a student isn’t as exhausting as you oh-so-dramatically whinge about.  When you are a mother, you will know the real meaning of exhaustion.

– You’ll never finish reading Swann’s Way, so don’t even bother.

8. What is the best joke you have ever heard / can remember?

Oh dear, this is embarrassing.  I can’t remember any joke at all =(

9. What is your earliest childhood memory?

I think it was going on an Easter egg hunt with my yaya (nanny) when I was about 5.

10. What is your favourite month of the year and why?

December, but only because of Christmas.  I don’t really like winter at all.

11. Favourite ever holiday and why?

The first ever road trip holiday as a family with our then 14 month old daughter.  We travelled from Cornwall, Bristol, Birmingham, Chester, the Lake District, Scotland (where we stayed for 10 days in a cabin near Loch Awe).  Then back again to the UK passing through Heptenstall to visit American poet Sylvia Plath’s grave and also dropped by Bronte Country in Haworth, Yorkshire before visiting my in-laws in Woburn Sands, MK.  It was exhausting and challenging to travel with a toddler, but was so worth it!

11.  If you had all the money in the world, is there a particular place/country you would love to move to?

I am aware of course that not everyone will respond to this and of course, I’m fine with that.  But it would be nice to pass on the pat on the back to someone whom you think deserves it =)
