Ever since moving just out of the little village by the sea and into a 400-year-old cottage, school runs now consist of a short drive down a B road. I use the word “short” lightly, because that all depends on whether we get stuck behind a tourist who likes to break in every corner and once they’ve reached the village, slow down and take a photo from inside their car. Yes, that happened to us so that ten-minute drive can easily turn into a 20-minute drive!
We’re back in the grind now. We leave the house around 8:30, if we leave early we always end up waiting around especially since little T’s school just isn’t really strict with time. I told my husband the other night, as much as I love her school, it sometimes annoys me how long it takes them to ring the bell in the morning. If they were going to take that long, they might as well serve coffee to the parents and provide chairs outside too!
T is happily settled in school and I also think I’m less of an emotional bundle now that she’s back and loving it again. We’re all settled, except Doc. He seems to want to join in the school run in the mornings and always tries to sneak in the car, one of these days, we might just take him along too. And while we’re at it, might as well take Boots!
Our word of the week is: school-run
Are the school runs also maddeing in your area?
Awww where you live sounds heavenly. I am glad it went well for you this week X #wotw
It is, but not so much during the tourist season 😉 x
Oh that would drive me mad too, having someone slowing down to take photos in front of me! Our school run is very easy as we live on the same road as the school so it only takes a couple of minutes to walk there – very handy! #WotW

We used to walk to school too when we lived inside the village, but since moving out, the only way to get there is to drive!
That does sound frustrating. Ours is only a short distance away, but we pass two other schools on the way so there’s a lot of traffic! You get used to it, though, don’t you? Glad T’s enjoyed her week x Thanks for sharing with #WotW

You’re right, you do get used to it and to be fair, tourist season is almost over and the roads will be quiet again 🙂
The school run is the bane of my life. In fact, I’m surprised it was a tourist taking that pic from the moving car. Type of behaviour I’d expect from a parent!
OH dear, I’m glad to say I don’t think I know any parent who slows down just to take a photo 😉
What time does T start school? Half 7 seems very early, we’re just getting ready at that time and leave the house at 9 to be there at 9.15. I just hate the parking outside my sons school, everyone seems to abandon their cars or park to closely to lines – annoying!
Oh flip, did I write half 7? She gets up at half 7 and leave at half 8 and school starts at 8:45… Well supposedly, they always ring the bell late!
Our school run is down a narrow, country lane, so it can get clogged up. We walk when we can. Our village isn’t quite so pretty. Tourists are not a problem, but I always add extra time at harvest, for the farm vehicles. We used to have a problem with the school doors opening late, but they seem to have upped their game…..or got new batteries for the clock in the staff room. #wotw

Where u live sounds lovely. No school runs yet for us it sounds frustrating about tourists taking photos when u just want to get to the school.
Although I dont have kids the school run drives me nuts as their is a school at the end of my road and people just park their cars everywhere and kids constantly running out and not looking where they are going! Nightmare!

We’re lucky that we live around the corner from where Erin will be going to school!

Sounds lovely where you live! First week of the school run done here. It takes minutes to get there, probably takes longer to park and get my little ones out the car! My worst bit is carrying baby and trying to persuade my grumpy 2 year old to walk – I ended up carrying them both today! 🙂
It sounds lovely where you live. I would love to live by the sea 🙂

It is indeed, though since moving out from the village, the coast isn’t walking distance anymore but is still a short drive.
Glad little T is settled back into school.
I can only imagine how frustrating the school run is for you in the tourist season!
I hate it when people are foot happy on the breaks, drives me bloody barmy haha! x

It does the same for my husband!
I am yet to start the school run. I am enjoying it while it last.
Especially since the days go by so quickly!
I am lucky that I live walking distance from school and our only hold up is if a horse crossed the road lol

We used to be able to walk to school too, but not anymore. x
Driving where I live it’s impossible from 8 till 10am, so the bus is the best option 🙂
Oh dear, sounds horrible!
Glad you’re settled back into school now. We can’t go anywhere without bumping into a tractor too haha. It’s amazing the amount of times I’ve been late to something because of a tractor in the lanes. x
Yes, or cows! 😉
More a train run for me, but the 8 minutes can become closer to 20 if I meet a tractor or two HGVs trying to pass each other on a narrow country lane!

Yep, that sounds like our school run too.
I am so lucky that school run is a 10min walk from here to his school. Though its a different story where it gets cold =P

I’m envious of your school run!
It was my first ever week doing the school run and I already hate it lol! In fact i’m currently writing a blog post about it lol x
Look forward to reading it! 🙂 x
Oh it can be frustrating! But the area you are living sounds absolutely amazing.

It certainly is, thanks!
I am pleased to read that you are feeling a lot happier, that’s great news. Your school run sounds like it has it’s challenges though
It can be a nightmare during the tourist season, but that’s almost over now 🙂
My daughter’s school opens the gate at 8.45am. The journey (by car) shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes maximum. However, I have to cross a busy roundabout and also very, very close, (I can see it from the roundabout) is a ridiculously busy A road that connects to two motorways. So to ensure I don’t get caught in traffic, I have to leave the home at 8am and don’t get me started on the car parking once we’ve arrived. On the plus side, I only have one academic year of school runs left. Next year, Miss L will be at secondary school and will walk with her big sister. Yay me!
Oh that sounds like a nightmare! Luck you, you only have a year left of the school run 🙂
