A Crime Scene

I didn’t mean for it to happen.

T’s mum was busy preparing dinner, when she left my little human’s half-eaten cake on the kitchen table.

I’ve never tasted chocolate cake before, I heard chocolate is supposed to be bad for us, dogs.  But it looked really delicious.  So brown, I like brown.  So gooey, I like gooey.

The temptation was just so great, I couldn’t resist it.

When my little human’s mum left the kitchen, before I could even realise what I was doing, it was over.

The deed was done.

I’m not really sure how it happened.  Everything is a blur to me now.  Somehow I managed to swoop up little T’s plastic blue plate from the kitchen top and wolfed down the chocolate cake.  It was so delicious, I even licked the plate clean.  Surely, without the evidence of the cake on it, the humans won’t know.

And then she came back …

She asked me,

Did you eat the cake Doc?

Did you do this?  She said, pointing to little T’s plate on the floor.

I knew I should’ve put the plate back on the kitchen top.

But how and like I said,

everything happened in a flash.

I stayed on my bed, under the table, willing myself to be invisible.

When that failed,

I gave her this look instead:

I think it worked.

I know I’m in trouble,

but the cake was yum!

I promise I’ll TRY not to do it again ….

Please tell me I’m not the only naughty dog around and that yours have also done this too?

hehe that’s an irresistible ‘ i’m guilt and naughty ‘ look! It’s amazing too how clean and spotless dogs can make our dishes.

    • I know. I was really shocked, especially since he has never done that before and the plate looked so clean!

lol. So funny! I loved this post. We have had a few “who ate the?” incidents. Dogs can be very sneaky at times! Our Yoda is. Thanks for sharing. Angela xx

    • Thanks! This is actually the first time Doc, my daughter’s dog ever done something like this. So I’m a bit shocked.

hahaha! This made me laugh out loud….
The look he is giving is just so adorable….

Yesterday I would have been struggling to remember the last time something like this happened. This morning it did happen. Hubby had forgot to put the chocolate away. I was making my morning coffee and the next thing I was shoving my fingers in a dog mouth trying to remove the toxic dark chocolate from between the jaws… too late. Her little heart hasn’t exploded yet so I guess we got away with it this time. She is always the chocolate thief. She just loves it.

A friend of mine gave her small dog chocolate sometimes because her dog loved it so much. She thought it was bad for them the way sugar is bad for us. But then her dog had seizures and she got to learn more about the toxicity of chocolate to dogs. There’s something in the chocolate that they can’t break down, some humans can’t either. Some dogs can. I do hope yours and mine can.

Oops! I remember seeing the cake looking yum on instagram, I didn’t see who ate it! #AnimalTales

  6. Doc is a scally wagg! I hope he didn’t get a tummy upset. Our dog recently ate whole loaves of tiger bread, she even took them out of the wrappers first!

    • He certainly is that Louisa! And he just tried it again, this time while I was in the kitchen. I did have my back turned at him though. He must really love the chocolate cake I baked for Father’s Day. Haha. As for your dog, what a smart one to take them out of the wrappers first 😉

Ash the Dog says – Doc. Part of me says that chocolate is REALLY bad for us Doggies but the other part is saying that you are SOOOOOOOOOOOOO my Hero!!!! You took one for the team dude!!! It did look really yummy!!!!! I’ll get my Mum to have a word with your grown up – you’ll be good 🙂 Paw-5’s!!! #animaltales

    • Thank you so much Ash. I feel so better now. All I needed was some kind and understsanding words from a good friend like you. And yes, the cake was yum! Paw-5s back! xxx

Oh Doc – you BAD BAD boy – thieving is one thing but chocolate cake is taking things to a whole new and VERY naughty level! Mind you Saari says “way to go my canine friend” … this being the dog who has stolen more than a few cakes in her time … and a jug of meaty liquid not more than 15 minutes ago that was supposed to go on her dinner, not straight to her tummy!

Many thanks for adding this sorry tale to #AnimalTales … you are sorry aren’t you, Doc? (and I am sorry for taking so long to comment – life has just been mad this week)

    • He looked absolutely guilty after! But then that feeling only lasted minutes! Then he was sniffing for crumbs again 😉

Oh Doc you could’ve been very poorly indeed!

Having said that I once stole a whole big bar of mum’s chocolate from off of the table one night. I cleverly hid the wrapper under my bed! She didn’t find it for hours! I got a telling off from mum and the vet too when she told them what I had done. Apparently I get poorly enough already without “fuelling the fire” whatever that means. Humans are weird 😉 Love from Stella x

    • Oh Stella, thank you so much (and also to my other lovely furry friends), I’m so glad and relieved that I’m not the only one who has been naughty. I love how all of you understand how it was so much worth it, in spite being told off in the end. Would I do it again? Definitely … that is, if given the chance. Hope you are well. Love from your friend, Doc.

my dog never steals food but then cake would never be left lying around our house in the first place as i can guarantee I would have licked my plate cleaner

    • Oh but the cake wasn’t lying around in the house. It was on our kitchen top 😉
