Florette’s Salad: A bowlful of summer

Summer is certainly just around the corner.  I feel it when I walk Doc on the headland, when we go to the beach or even when I walk little T to play-school sometimes even without a cardigan on.

If summer was a salad to me it will be an infusion of lots of colours and different greens, oranges, red pepper, topped with grilled chicken – because, well because I love chicken.

Thank goodness for Florette Salad, a bag full of delicious healthy yummylicious salad.  This by the way, is our attempt to eat healthy, by eating lots of salad and fruit.  Surely, you can’t go wrong with that right?

The above recipe is called Orange Chicken over Mixed Greens taken from the book below.

It was a delight folks, certainly what I would call a bowlful of summer!

Florette salad will be a perfect healthy addition to all those summer BBQs you’ve probably planned already.  Let’s face it, sometimes salad can be a bit boring, or as my husband would call it “rabbit food”.  However, there are lots of different kinds and ways to serve it.

One tip, especially if your family is like mine who let’s just say needs a little bit of coaxing when it comes to eating vegetables, – make it as colourful and as attractive as you can.  So make sure you mix the greens with the brightest orange you can find, or hunt for the reddest pepper or tomatoes  in the supermarket shelves.  Try to make it look like it’s saying, “eat me”.  For me, there’s nothing more depressing than being served a green-drab-sad looking salad, don’t you agree?

Don’t get me wrong though, I don’t do this every single meal.  Who does that – unless you work in a restaurant of course or for important occasions.  I only try to make food more attractive when I’m trying to convince family to eat what I’ve just prepared for them (i.e vegetables).

What about you?  Is food presentation important to you?

I’m loving a salad for tea at the mo, as our local open air pool is open and it’s lovely to go after school with the kids, and take tea along so I can head off the energy drop straight after! And chicken suits me and one of my kids at least (don’t get me started on fanny fuss pants!). #PoCoLo

    • Oh I can definitely relate! My three-year-old will only eat the cherry tomatoes (if there’s any) in the salad. The rest to her is… yuck. Sigh.

I’m in complete salad mode now that the sun is shining – and this is just what I need!

    • I have to come up with different tricks and recipes to get my little family to eat salad 😉

Presentation is important cuz it just shows the people who will eat your cooked food that you value them enough to make the food good looking. I would even get those M&S food brochure cuz they have the most awesome food photos. I copy them. I love your food photo! We both love chicken and that chicken is good looking =P #PoCoLo

  4. I do have to say that there is such a beauty in salad 🙂 I love Florettes too, we have it regularly in this house. Thank you so much for linking to PoCoLo 🙂 x
